Vision Aid trainers know that teaching vision impaired is not the same as teaching a sighted person. They know that "touch and hearing" are the means for acquisition of knowledge for the vision impaired student. Some principles followed by Vision Aid have become set tall standards :
  1. ​The teacher addresses the student each and every time by name especially when there are others in the vicinity. Otherwise, the student may not know that he or she is being addressed.
  2. Where as in normal pedagogy the student is usually shown a thing physically or in a picture form and given a mental capture, for vision impaired, mental capture is more important but more difficult. The teacher helps create it by creating a opportunities for tactile and sound.
For example, the first lessons of computer for a sighted person include "seeing" the equipment or pictures like the schematic below ( from Wikipedia ) :

Optical drive that takes external DVDs and CDs 8. Hard Disk Drive that stores all electronic data of the computer.
  • Vision Aid teacher open a broken computer, make the student touch and feel the parts to capture scheme of things. 

  • Extra ordinary care is taken to teach correct touch typing. 

  • Homonyms and teaching the differentiation are given importance because the vision impaired depend solely on hearing.

  • Every student is taught Fundamentals of O&M and handling hardware.

  • Concepts are taught by giving tangible examples. For example, hardware, software, RAM, etc. are explained by giving simple comparisons (cassette is a hardware, information stored on it is software, UPS is like a tank of stored water drawing supply from a river, RAM is like a pitcher to draw water for the tasks to put it back when closing the kitchen, etc.).
